Maui has something for everyone - Here are some of ours...
Breakfast
One of our favorite things to do
is to eat breakfast on the lanai while watching whales and enjoying spectacular
views.
If you are going out, try the
Gazebo at Napili Shores Condo - 5315 Lower Honoapiilani Rd.
Cheeseburger in Paradise has
great breakfast. It's located in Lahaina on Front Street.
Lunch
Maui Tacos is one of our
favorites for lunch (they are located in several spots around the island). - It's
low in fat too (like anyone cares).
The Plantation Restaurant in
Kapalua is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wonderful food
and spectacular views.
We also frequent
Aloha Mixed Plate, which
has the best plate lunches, at the best prices anywhere on the island.
There is a deli right down the
street called The Honokowai Okazuya Deli, they have great sandwiches and plate
lunches.
Another local favorite is
Da Kitchen,
huge portions, fast service and great island food.
The Honolua Store, next to the
Ritz was recently remodeled, wonderful deli and good prices
Dinner - So many choices…
so little time.
Roy's - Right across the street
in the Kahana Gateway has great food however is not for the budget minded.
Front Street in Lahaina has many
of our favorites, many are right on the ocean.
Bubba Gumps is a theme
restaurant based on the movie Forest Gump. Not only is the atmosphere a lot of
fun, but the food is fantastic. Our favorite is the crab legs, they have some of
the best ribs on the island as well. Always more food than you can eat and quite
a value.
Kimo's - Great atmosphere right
on the ocean. Prime rib is the specialty, good seafood.
Cheeseburger in Paradise - Great
burgers with live music nightly.
BJ's Pizza - Good Chicago style
pizza - Excellent chicken wings (they do have medium, although they are not on
the menu). Good Drinks too.
Moose McGillycuddy's - Great
values on specific nights - Watch for all you can eat crab legs and a steak and
lobster for about $20 on Saturdays. Get a seat overlooking Front Street.
Hard Rock Café - Yes you can go
to one anywhere in the county, but not with a view like this, great sunset.
Always good food and exotic drinks - One hurricane gets you where you're going
in short order! Ligia's favorite drink Maui wide is a Lava Flow.
Whaler's Village Area -
Kaanapali - Get your parking validated.
Hula Grill - Barefoot Bar -
Right on the ocean - Great sunsets - Live music - Cool refreshing drinks - Try an
appetizer.
Leilanis on the Beach - Drink
specials during sunsets - Live music.
Things to Do:
For a complete Guide to
the Island, pick up a copy of "Maui
Revealed". You can get it at most book stores
across the country. Unfortunately for us.. good for you.. It reveals
absolutely every secret and special place on Maui. They have done a very good
job exploring the island and revealing it to the world. I cannot say that I
agree with many of their objective reports, but it is a very good guide.
Road to Hana - Takes all day,
pack a lunch, swimsuit and a full tank of gas. You must go beyond Hana to the
seven sacred pools. Well worth the additional half-hour. If your feeling
especially adventurous, go all the way around, you will see even more
spectacular Maui views.
Take a drive to South Maui -
Drive through Kihei - There are many nice beaches. Go all the way south and
visit Makena Beach. Or Little Makena (Clothes optional). Just past Makena is a
Secret beach called…."Secret Beach". There will be a brick wall on your right.
There is a small walkway with public access to it. It is truly one of the most
wonderful beaches on Maui. Good snorkeling if the waves are not too rough to
enter. You may see sea turtles in this area.
For a shorter drive, perhaps in
the morning - Go north from the condo. It actually goes all the way around, but
then you have to drive back from the airport area. Sometimes we just go about
halfway and turn around. There are some of the most beautiful views up this
road. The road is similar to the road to Hana.
The road to Haleakala is
most spectacular. You have to get up very early, about 2 - 3 am to see the
sunrise.
Iao Needle State Park is well
worth the visit. Some truly spectacular sites and some Hawaiian history.
Our favorite snorkeling spots
include - Black Rock (just outside the Sheraton Hotel) in Kaanapali, Honolua Bay
is north of the condo and has some of the best snorkeling we have ever seen!!
Our favorite beaches include -
Napili Beach - It is located between our condo and Napili. It's usually a fairly
calm beach, but sometimes the waves kick up. Take Lower H-Highway north until you
see the Sunset Beach Condo and Napili Bay sign and turn left. We usually park in
front of one of the condos, there is a small beach access sign on the
left.
Our beach right outside the
condo is very nice. It is very private, as there is no real public access.
There are many golf
courses with the most stunning views anywhere in the world. The resort courses
can be expensive, but they are well worth the treat. One of the best values is Waiehu Municipal Golf Course. Most courses have twilight rates, the time varies
but the rates are about half.
Click here for a list of courses.
That is all for
now, Have a Great Time in Paradise !!
